192. Counting down

Hands down, this has been the most awesome Christmastime, and it’s only beginning.  My five year old has been unbelievably excited about EVERYTHING Christmas related, from our nativity sets, to the lights, to Elvis (our elf on the shelf), to making decorations and now to our activity Advent Calendar.  This kid’s spirit is positively infectious.

This year, rather than going only with our traditional advent calendar (usually a one dollar treat from Trader Joe’s with a piece of chocolate for each day), I opted to add an activity based Advent calendar.  It was a quick and simple DIY that turned out quite nicely, I must say.  My oldest found several small broken branches in the yard, we put them in a jar, tied a ribbon around the jar and hung little tags from the branches.

Tada!

It’s been so much fun thus far!  The kids have been so excited to see what the newest activity will be.

  1. I am sooo impressed . I read about someone else doing this active style of calender, liked the idea and then panicked about thinking of enough activities. Well done to you for managing it – you are a far better person than I!
